Delta Air Lines has permanently discontinued nonstop flights from New York JFK Airport to three major U.S. hubs following a temporary suspension in June 2026. The airline attributed the permanent cancellation to routine network planning after citing increased fuel costs and expenses earlier this year.
Travelers affected by the cancellation will be contacted directly by Delta to arrange alternative travel plans. Those with canceled JFK flights may be rebooked on connecting flights through LaGuardia Airport or offered a full refund. Delta encourages impacted passengers to check the Fly Delta app or their online accounts for itinerary updates and available rebooking
options.
Delta continues to operate nonstop flights from LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis. Passengers now must consider ground transportation and parking changes when switching departure airports from JFK to LGA as part of rerouting options.
New nonstop route from Raleigh-Durham to Southwest Florida
Starting November 21, 2026, Delta will launch a new nonstop flight from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers. The route will be served by a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet, expanding Delta’s presence from one of the fastest-growing East Coast cities.
Introduction of Basic fares for premium cabins
Delta also introduced a new Basic fare tier for first class
and business class cabins shortly before Thanksgiving 2026. This pricing option offers premium perks at a lower cost, potentially saving travelers up to $200 compared to regular first-class tickets. Basic fares grant access to benefits like Zone 1 boarding and 180-degree lie-flat seats with privacy suites on select aircraft.
Joe Esposito, Delta’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, said, “This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products.”
A Delta spokesperson apologized for any inconvenience caused by the route changes and confirmed
that affected customers would be contacted to discuss alternative options.
