A person was struck by a train in Cambridgeshire on August 1, 2026, resulting in the closure of all train lines between Stevenage and London Kings Cross. Emergency services responded at the scene, prompting significant disruptions across the affected rail network.

Lines Closed and Services Affected

National Rail announced the suspension of services on lines running between Stevenage, Moorgate, London Kings Cross, and London St Pancras International. Grand Central’s routes to and from London Kings Cross were halted, alongside Great Northern services between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross and those operating between Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, and Moorgate. Hull Trains, LNER, and Lumo routes

serving London Kings Cross were also impacted. Thameslink services between Cambridge and Brighton, as well as Peterborough and Horsham, faced possible delays or cancellations due to the incident.

Passenger Disruption and Replacement Services

Train services were canceled or delayed by up to one hour while emergency work was underway. Passengers were advised to expect significant delays at least until midday on August 1. Diversions via Hertford North were implemented where possible. Limited rail replacement bus services were arranged, including two Keyline Coaches with 50 seats each expected at Peterborough around 10:00 AM and one Chaseside Double-Decker bus with 80 seats scheduled to arrive at London

Kings Cross near 10:30 AM.

The disruption affected numerous routes across Cambridgeshire, including critical connections through London Kings Cross, Moorgate, and London St Pancras International, leaving passengers to face cancellations, delays, and route diversions throughout the morning on August 1.
