The United States government has made its visa bond program permanent and increased the maximum bond amount to $20,000 as of August 1, 2026.

Applicants from dozens of countries are affected by the change, including Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Travelers from these nations now face the requirement to post higher visa bonds when applying for entry into the United States.
