A person being hit by a train has caused the closure of all lines between Stevenage and London Kings Cross on August 1, 2026. Affected Train Operators and Routes
Grand Central routes to and from London Kings Cross have been cancelled entirely. Great Northern services running between Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross, as well as those linking Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, and Moorgate, are also cancelled. Hull Trains, LNER, and Lumo services serving London Kings Cross have
been disrupted. Thameslink trains operating between Cambridge and Brighton, and between Peterborough and Horsham, are experiencing delays and cancellations due to the incident.
Emergency Response and Disruption Duration
Emergency services are present at the scene handling the situation. Disruptions are expected to last until at least midday on August 1, 2026. Delays of up to one hour are likely as a result of the closures and emergency operations on the railway lines.
Passengers traveling through Cambridgeshire face cancellations and significant delays, with some services being rerouted via Hertford North to mitigate disruption. Rail replacement buses have been arranged but are limited; two Keyline Coaches with
50 seats each are scheduled to be available at Peterborough around 10:00 AM, while a single Chaseside Double-Decker bus with 80 seats is expected at London Kings Cross at about 10:30 AM.
