More than 10,000 delegates from 40 countries are expected to attend the 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) from October 6 to October 8, 2026, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. This attendance marks a roughly 30 percent rise from the 7,691 delegates recorded at the 2025 MKTE. The event will include over 400 exhibitors and more than 250 international buyers who have been carefully vetted for quality, reinforcing its status as East Africa’s leading travel trade expo.

Kenya’s Tourism Growth Target and Partnership Model

Kenya aims to attract five million international visitors by the end of 2027 through a public-private partnership model that combines government agencies and

private sector players. The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) credits this approach with strengthening Kenya’s global tourism market position. KTB CEO June Chepkemei stated that every element of MKTE 2026 programming is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence, which supports the growth in delegate numbers reflecting growing confidence in Kenya’s tourism sector.

Focus on Digital Transformation, AI, and MICE Sector

MKTE 2026 is themed “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” aligning with World Tourism Day 2026. The event features seminars on artificial intelligence, big data, immersive technologies, digital payments, and smart destination management. Special emphasis is placed on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions

(MICE) sector. The Kenya MICE Club is collaborating with government and private stakeholders to develop competitive bids and destination incentives.

Government Initiatives on Visa and Air Connectivity

Tour Operators Society of Kenya (TOSK) Chair Raymond Cheruiyot highlighted government efforts to improve visa access and expand air connectivity to enhance tourism growth. These measures aim to make Kenya more accessible internationally and support improvements in tourism infrastructure. MKTE includes business-to-business meetings, seminars, and familiarisation trips to strengthen international partnerships and trade opportunities.

Official Statements on Tourism Innovation and Growth

KTB CEO June Chepkemei said, “Every element of this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer

demand intelligence.” She added, “We know what the interests of our visitors are and what it takes to convert interest into arrivals. Our marketing campaigns both domestic and international are built on that evidence, and MKTE is the platform where we bring those insights to life for our partners.” Duncan Muriuki, Chair of the Kenya MICE Association, stated, “MICE is the next frontier for growing tourism revenue. Our focus is not just on increasing visitor numbers, but on attracting high-value business events that deliver greater economic impact.” Raymond Cheruiyot described MKTE as vital for showcasing Kenya’s tourism and building partnerships

to drive sustainable growth.
