India’s Ministry of Tourism and Air India Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 28, 2026, to create a strategic partnership aimed at promoting India as a preferred global tourism destination. The signing took place in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Scope of the MoU Collaboration

The MoU outlines collaboration areas including tourism promotion, destination branding, international marketing, content development, and engagement with stakeholders. Both parties agreed to leverage the Incredible India brand alongside Air India’s broad domestic and international network. Promotional efforts will include global campaigns and dissemination of tourism-related content through

Air India customer touchpoints such as in-flight entertainment platforms. The partnership will also involve coordination with State Tourism Boards to promote various destinations across India.

Branding opportunities on Air India’s platforms—such as aircraft livery, boarding passes, and in-flight media—will be explored subject to feasibility and mutual agreement.

Implementation and Duration

The partnership is structured as non-commercial, non-binding, and non-exclusive, with no financial obligations for either party. To oversee the MoU’s execution, a Joint Working Group comprising representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Air India will be formed. This group will identify collaborative opportunities and review progress periodically. The agreement will remain in

effect for two years from its effective date, with the possibility of a one-year extension upon mutual consent.

Objectives and Traveler Impact

The collaboration aims to increase India’s visibility as a tourism destination and strengthen inbound tourism by utilizing Air India’s extensive network alongside government promotional initiatives. The partnership intends to position India as a global transit and travel hub. International travelers are expected to benefit from coordinated promotional campaigns that enhance awareness and accessibility. Tourism-related content integrated into Air India’s in-flight entertainment is designed to provide travelers with enriched information on destinations across India.
