The 16th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) will convene more than 10,000 delegates from 40 countries at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi from October 6 to 8, 2026. This represents a 30% increase in attendance compared to the 7,691 delegates recorded in 2025, marking the largest turnout in the event’s history and underscoring growing confidence in Kenya’s tourism sector.
The expo’s theme, “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” aligns with the global focus for World Tourism Day 2026. It will bring together government agencies, tourism boards, industry practitioners, and technology partners to examine how
innovations such as AI, big data, immersive technologies, digital payments, and smart destination tools can enhance tourism growth and visitor experience across Africa.
MKTE 2026 will place significant emphasis on Kenya’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, a key pillar in the country’s tourism development strategy. The Kenya MICE Club, working with government and private sector stakeholders, is spearheading efforts to craft competitive bidding packages and destination incentives aimed at attracting high-value business events.
Kenya Tourism Board CEO June Chepkemei stated the event reflects Kenya’s commitment to tourism growth, driven by innovation, technology, and strategic partnerships. “Every element of
this year’s MKTE programme, from the buyer selection to the seminar agenda, is informed by data and consumer demand intelligence,” she said. Chepkemei emphasized the importance of aligning marketing campaigns with visitor interests to convert inquiry into actual arrivals.
Tour Operators Society of Kenya Chair Raymond Cheruiyot credited government reforms easing visa access and expanding air connectivity with creating a foundation for tourism growth. He described MKTE as a crucial platform to showcase Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings and build strategic partnerships. “As the private sector, we remain committed to working alongside government to convert these opportunities into increased visitor arrivals,
higher tourism revenue, and sustainable growth for the industry,” Cheruiyot added.
The expo supports Kenya’s ambitious goal of attracting five million international visitors by the end of 2027. The government and private sector cooperation continues to be central to executing this objective through public-private partnerships and data-driven marketing.
Improved visa access and enhanced air connectivity are expected to increase Kenya’s global appeal, further boosted by Nairobi and Mombasa’s expanding bleisure offerings that encourage business travelers to extend their stays. This positions Kenya as a competitive destination for both leisure tourism and business events.
Over the three-day event, MKTE 2026 will
feature seminars, business-to-business meetings, and familiarisation trips designed to strengthen partnerships and generate trade opportunities. The platform fosters collaboration between tourism stakeholders and helps drive the sector towards sustainable growth centered on technology and smart destination management.
