The Federal Aviation Authority issued a ground stop advisory for LaGuardia Airport in New York on Monday, July 27, 2026. Delta Air Lines experienced the majority of flight cancellations out of LaGuardia following the advisory.
At the same time, John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is operating under a Traffic Management Program due to air traffic control staffing shortages. The FAA reported an average delay of two hours and 29 minutes for arriving flights at JFK. A ground stop means all flights bound for LaGuardia are held at their departure airports until the FAA lifts the restriction.
Earlier this month,
more than 500 flights were canceled and over 4,000 delayed in the New York area. The FAA slowed flights into JFK, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty International Airport, and Philadelphia International Airport due to weather and staffing constraints impacting air traffic control facilities serving these airports.
“Due to STAFFING / STAFFING, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving at John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 2 hours and 29 minutes,” the Federal Aviation Authority stated.
