United Airlines experienced a technology outage on the morning of July 25, 2026, leading to widespread flight delays across the United States. Passengers began reporting issues before 7:40 a.m., and by 8:23 a.m. over 430 reports had been logged on Down Detector.
Technology Outage Disrupts Check-In and Reservation Systems
The outage impacted United Airlines’ reservation system, disabling contact centers and check-in processes. This prevented passengers from completing check-ins and processing ticket-related transactions. Flights already airborne or that had departed the gate were not affected by the outage.
Major U.S. Airports Report Operational Challenges
Passengers reported difficulties at several major airports, including Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia and Newark Liberty International Airport in
New Jersey. These disruptions affected travel on key routes including flights originating or terminating in New York and San Francisco.
United Airlines Statement and Traveler Advisory
A United Airlines spokesperson confirmed the issue was resolved and operations were returning to normal. “Our teams are getting our operations back to normal after a technology outage affected contact centers and check-in processes earlier today,” the spokesperson said. Customers were advised to check their flight status via the United app before traveling.
Previous Technology Disruptions at United Airlines
This outage follows similar technology disruptions experienced by United Airlines two years earlier, when a CrowdStrike update caused significant operational interruptions, forcing cancellations and communication breakdowns with
pilots.
