On June 28, 2026, London Heathrow and Gatwick airports experienced significant flight disruptions due to severe thunderstorms. Hundreds of departures and arrivals faced delays, and a number of flights were cancelled, affecting air travel schedules across the two major UK airports.
Passengers at both airports were impacted by the adverse weather conditions, with some stranded on the tarmac or in terminals for up to six hours. Gatwick in particular saw multiple flight cancellations as a result of the storm activity, intensifying the disruption. The severe weather also contributed to a backlog, leading to prolonged waiting times and challenges in managing
normal operations throughout the day.
