During the summer of 2026, Norway has joined Sweden, Finland, Spain, and Italy in witnessing a noticeable rise in tourism motivated by the desire to avoid high temperatures. This emerging ‘coolcation’ trend highlights a growing preference among travelers to seek relief in cooler climates rather than enduring the intense heat of traditional southern European destinations.
As a result, cities in the Nordic region, notably Oslo, Stockholm, and Helsinki, are attracting an increasing number of tourists who might have otherwise chosen southern cities such as Madrid and Rome. This shift appears to be driven primarily by rising temperatures in southern Europe,
encouraging holidaymakers to favor the milder summer weather found in Nordic capitals.
